Starting Sims in CAS (MOD)

I took part in a project where we collaborated with other talented creators in the Sims community to create starting sims for CAS. With this mod you'll get unique and diverse characters ready for your creative projects.

Features of the mod: - 40 unique characters (20 masc and 20 fem frames); - Huge variety of types for inspiration; - Neutral underwear in all outfits - no more wasting time removing unwanted clothing layers; - Neutral manicure and pedicure for fem characters in all outfits; - Subtile makeup enhancing facial features; - No accessories; You can take a look at every sim in this mod under the cut.

How to use this mod: - Place the file in the Mods folder. Since this is a default replacement, there can only be one mod of this type in the folder. If you already have a mod that alters the default characters, make sure to remove the old one before installing the new one; - When you first load into Create-A-Sim (CAS), a pre-made Sim from our collection will appear. If you’d like to see alternate versions, simply click the ‘X’ button at the bottom-right and choose ‘Reset Current Family’ to refresh; - Create! (Please note: These characters were created using all available packs and DLCs. While the mod should still work if you don’t own certain packs, some features or items may be missing.)

Durgetash mod recs

With Larian sadly refusing to add Durgetash content to the game (aside from some minor hints), we can thankfully make Durgetash canon ourselves with some excellent mods lovingly created by the community. Below the cut, I've compiled a list with download links to all Durgetash-related mods that I know of and are available for download. Major thanks to all the mod creators!

Tyrant's earrings by Nuage12. Adds earrings based on Gortash's gauntlets to character creation. Fits most body types, but not dragonborn.

Strangely Familiar Ring by weavebitch. Adds a ring also based on Gortash's gauntlets, for either the left or right hand. The ring is in the glove slot. Fits all body types. It's sold by Arron, the druid trader in the Grove. If you're already past that point, you'll have to spawn it instead (instructions on how to do that are in the comments here).

Lord Enver Gortash's Restored Underwear by VarisiaBG3. This adds Gortash's cut underwear back into the game. It's wearable by tall body type 1s and all other body types. Can be found in the tutorial chest or in the chest next to Gortash's bed in Wyrm's Rock.

Gortash's Gift by Meeawrion. This is a choker based on the metal pieces of Gortash's armour. Fits most body types from what I've tested, though there is a bit of clipping on the sides for all body types except body type 1. Uses the cloak slot. It's found in the tutorial chest and sold by Arron in the Grove.

Gortash Hireling by flymmsy. This replaces the hireling Jacelyn with Gortash. Very useful mod for photo mode. By default, he will have all of the hireling's equipment, so you'll either need another mod (such as this one) to give him his actual armour, or get the optional file. Alternatively, you can use the mod Transform into companions and NPCs by MUNMOMUU to get a ring to turn a character into any NPC, including Gortash.

Hugs, Kisses, and Replayable Romance Scenes by Cerberry. With these mods, you can have Gortash kiss or hug your Durge. Works well on both actual Gortash and the hireling, just make sure you select scenes that fit the body type of the recipient character, or it won't line up properly.

Ok, soo since I'm making loincloths it raises a few "questions" as whats underneath lol... and because of the way sims 4 works I have a few options on how to go with that. Ps: I know the texture on this one sucks... I'm working on it. 1. As of right now they're normal bottom pieces, which means they replace the WHOLE bottom part of your sims and since I didn't make them NSFW you can see the ken doll parts lol. I can leave it like that or I can put some underwear underneath it myself. If I leave them as Ken dolls it would allow you to use one out of many accessory underwear's/leggings that already exist. 2. Or, I could possibly make them as accessories so your default nude bottom would be underneath them, you guys could also use them with other bottom pieces but It's very likely that there would be some clipping depending on the bottom piece. I would also have to figure it out where to put the textures as where they are right now they might conflict with the nude mesh.

Dear Tay, can you help me? I want to install Wicked Whims, but I heard it may cause body parts to disappear in CAS. I downloaded the default replacement underwear and replacement feet by Jius that you recommended (thanks for those!💕). Should I worry that my Sims feet (or other body parts) would disappear? Also, how can I prevent my Sims being naked in CAS? Or should I just leave it that way? What do you do to make Wicked work fine both in game and CAS?

I haven't had too many issues with body parts disappearing with WW.

You will need to download turbodriver's add on for underwear in CAS. I also recommend downloading the smaller mosaic mod, if you don't have it already. Without this mod, nudity will not be censored.

changbin would make you a nice fruit smoothie packed with vitamins and minerals to replace what's been lost from sweating. he would add in all your favourite fruits paired with whatever juice, milk or yogurt you want. he'd go that extra mile to make it that extra special for you, topping the smoothie off with a piece of fruit. you'd happily drink the smoothies together, talking about this and that before changbin spontaneously decides to take you out on a date that same night. he can't help it, he's a big guy with a big heart, so every time he sees you wobble around, he feels a little guilty. you'd remember one time where changbin was once so lost in the pleasure, it went on for hours. your body bruised and tender and after it all, changbin apologized the whole week and even cried, claiming he felt so guilty and promised to be more gentle with you. you calmed him down, reassuring him it's ok before going for another round because his crying face is just something too adorable to you.

a night filled with nothing but passion and love, hyunjin would still be cautious and treat you like royalty afterwards. he knows your skin is tender and your muscles are screaming at you. he knows he has put you in various positions and your back is screaming and legs jelly. the bruises and marks he made on you very visible to which hyunjin is somewhat smug about. a hot shower with him to relax your muscles paired with a nice shoulder massage afterwards. naked back to hyunjin, his fingers digging into your muscles which causes soft, involuntary moans to roll past from your lips. hyunjin would plant soft kisses on the back of your neck and shoulder blades. the bedroom lite up with candles, soft classical music playing and essence burning in the background. hyunjin would leave your side for a second to gather some paint and paintbrushes to paint pictures around your bruises, sometimes incorporating them in his art work. he would take photos of your decorated body, using it as reference for his next art piece.

That impulsive buy ended up having its repercussions, you were in the bathroom and you almost felt like you were gonna cry.

It wasn’t that the dress didn’t fit, You tried it on when you were buying it, But you were tucked then. Usually when you re-enter the comfort of your own home you get comfortable on the couch or in bed and quit worrying about being tucked or not.

But promptly forgetting about it, your default of having your sex free in the confines of your underwear. That bulge peeking through the soft fabric which made you frown, whining with your hands over your face with frustration.

It’s so hard to try and be as womanly as possible, if it’s not hormones it’s the clothing. If it isn’t clothing, It’s the people and homophobes. If it isn't any that bullshit; It’s the one thing you’re fully stuck with until you can afford the surgery.

“Shh.. Shh.. You’re alrigh’, You’re going to be fine. Soon you’ll have the surgery, soon you wouldn’ even recognize the boy that was once there.” He tried to reassure before you cut him off.

“Soon! I don’t care about soon I need Now, I don’t want to have to wait-”

“Exactly, You’re stuck like this. Things may look bad but look on the brighter side. You have me that will support you along the way, You have the access to hormones and you have something to look forward to. I bet this day in two years will breeze on and by then the only thing about you that wouldn’t be accommodated to the girl you are is a letter in a birth certificate.”

You felt yourself get less tense at his words and melt a bit more into his comforting touch and his words soothing your ears to your brain.

Once the atmosphere calmed down, Hobie kissed the top of your head and leaned over a little more in order to whisper in your ear, “Besides, we can have so much fun in said two years.”

You roll your eyes playfully and soon feel his lips close over yours, and your beating heart pumping downwards in a familiar way. And he slowly eases you against the bathroom sink and hands lowering to the ends of your dress just below your hips, and his voice a low raspy siren call.

okay I want to briefly explain how wicked whims and the sim body mesh/clothing works

because the more tech support questions I get the more I realize that a lot of people who aren't cc makers don't know/have misconceptions about it, for very understandable reasons because it's not necessarily intuitive if you haven't done any modding before.

so, the base sim mesh is a naked ken doll that'd divided up into segments as follows:

when you equip a piece of clothing, you aren't putting the clothing onto the mesh, you're swapping out an entire segment with a version of that segment that has clothes on it. it doesn't matter how much or little the clothing covers, the whole segment is getting replaced and if you were to make, say, a miniskirt and only include the skirt itself in your mesh, it would look like this in game:

so what you have to do is fill in any part of your clothing that doesn't cover the skin by frankenmeshing the base nude mesh onto it, so then you'll have a lower body segment like this:

and that will look normal in-game.

what wicked whims does with its body selector is, for instance, replace the default nude "pants" (the base game underwear) with custom "pants" that have genitals and no underwear. on a technical level it's literally all just pants (or shoes, or shirt). there are fun things you can do with this system and it's why the digi legs require wicked whims. the legs, both sfw and nsfw versions, are "pants" that replace the nude lower body, and the hooves are "shoes" that replace the nude feet. you can equip them like any pants/shoes in CAS if you don't have wicked whims, but any time your sim showers or otherwise removes their pants/shoes, they will be swapped out with the default vanilla nude segments.

What’s your favourite thing about the ocean? How expansive and beautiful it is.

What odour makes you feel physically sick? The smell of shoes that have been worn without socks/on a person's sweaty feet is one that gets me. Also when Nippy uses the litter box, that period right afterwards, before she's buried her waste and the litter hasn't had a chance to dry everything out and mask the odor yet. I scoop/stir directly after each time she's used the box unless I'm asleep, so it doesn't last long. I've a strong stomach generally, but occasionally those few moments make me gag.

How often do you cut your hair? Not too often.

How easily offended are you? It depends on the context of the situation, honestly. My feelings can get hurt easily and I can be sensitive, but usually there's an actual reason for it. I'm not offended by every single thing I don't like or agree with or every person/viewpoint that differs from me. I can tune a lot of shit out when needed.

What’s the official language of your country? English and French are both our official languages.

What was the last thing you used ointment for? I'm pretty sure it was for this really bad itchy, sore rash I had for about six weeks in the summer.

Given my physical disability/health conditions, one of the things I take with me would have to be another person by default. The other two would probably be a sleeping bag and the allowance for the other person to bring their own three things so we'd have a better shot out there.

When did you last go to the opticians? 2017, I think.

What was the last thing you ordered online? Several new packs of underwear so I could replace all my old ones.

How organised are you? I'm not like super anal about every speck of dust or anything like that, but I don't like clutter and mess and if something doesn't serve me anymore for whatever reason I'll donate or toss it. I grew up with a mother who was/is very opposite to that mindset in a lot of ways and it made me want to be opposite to her.

Do you have any ornaments? What of? I have some small wall hangings and signs, some knicknack figurines of little bunnies. That's about it.

Nippy does this thing since she turned about one, where if I'm sick and/or crying or upset and laying on my stomach in bed, she'll walk across my back, lay down in a loaf in the middle of it and just stay there for hours, purring her head off. The more off and less like myself I seem, the louder and more persistent her purr seems to be. She's wild and rambunctious and sometimes bitey, but such a lovebug, too. She knows when Mama needs her. :)

Cadybear's MC Wardrobes: Adelaide Zhou, ROD (Part 1). Featuring some edits by me!

How this series goes: With each book, for a MC I'm invested in, I'll assess each of their in-game outfits. How much do I like or dislike the outfit? Is this something that suits my MC's style, or does it make me go "My MC would NOT wear/own this"? And for the outfits that my MC would not wear or own, how would I alter or replace them? I'm not going to use screenshots from the actual game because I can't be arsed. Also I want to use the different sprite expressions to express how my MC would feel about each outfit.

I like to think this is a good opportunity to elaborate on my MCs' dress styles, and show off some edits :D

And now, presenting the first MC wardrobes post made freshly after having finished its respective book! Let's see how well the ROD closet does justice to Addi Zhou!

Ch 1: "At First Sight" Premium Party Dress/Default Starter Outfit

Yeah... hard no. The solid fabric is nice, but the skirt is just far too short for her. The sheer waist lace is extra not for her. And the necklace is just... odd. The bracelets are alright though.

Verdict: Addi would NOT own this. Replace entirely. Keep the bracelets, but ditch the rest.

Here's an outfit that would suit Addi much better.

Nopitty nope nope nope. Addi does not do crop/midriff tops or short shorts. She'd love that jewelry though.

Verdict: Addi would NOT own this. Alter to make it longer. Keep the jewelry for other potential outfits, but ditch the rest.

Ch 3: "Changing Gear" Premium Outfit for avoiding Dad's suspicion

Hell yes to the plaid shirt, bracelets, and tank top. Hell no to the short shorts and shortness of the top. Granted it's tempting for the basic style it's going for... but overall, it's not worth the diamonds.

Verdict: Only partly in Addi's wardrobe. Alter by replacing the shorts and lengthening the top.

Here's what this outfit would look like in Addi's style. I like to think this becomes her preferred casual outfit post-graduation.

Ch 5: "Picture Perfect" Premium Outfit for Senior Yearbook Photos

The cardigan is nice, the top is cute... not so much the shorts though. They make the whole look feel weirdly off.

Frankly I think she'd prefer to wear her Langston sweater for this.

Verdict: Only partly in Addi's wardrobe. Keep the sweater and the top for future potential outfits, but ditch the rest.

Ch 6: "Drive 'Em Crazy" Premium Outfit for Driving Test

Ehhhh... it doesn't violate her style nearly as egregiously as many of the other outfits do, but it's still not her style. The top, she'd maybe be okay with. But not really the skirt. I like the jewelry though.

Verdict: Only partly in Addi's wardrobe. Maybe keep the top, but ditch the skirt.

Not sure I'll make a replacement outfit. Driving tests don't really call for nice outfits unless you're Cher Horowitz IMO (speaking of, my HSS:CA MC Cher would probably like this outfit).

Ch 7: "Paint It Black" Premium Outfit for Heist

GENDERRRRRRRR

This is the only premium outfit I really really like, tbh. I want it as her casual default outfit. At least for when she's doing work with the MPC.

Verdict: Part of Addi's wardrobe, and is Addi's official casuall outfit for MPC era. Keep it as is.

Ch 8: Underwear

It's alright. She'd like it... but I think she'd prefer boxers. And a more red color.

Verdict: Only partly in Addi's wardrobe. Alter by recoloring and replacing the bottoms.

Here's how her undies would actually look. Yes I did steal the boxers from Logan. They look better on her.

Ch 9: "Work It" Premium Outfit for job

I actually quite like this outfit and think Addi would wear it too. It looks light and comfortable. I think she'd like it as a summer/beach outfit. (Also I want to play the game with at least one outfit that lets her show off her tattoo).

Verdict: Part of Addi's wardrobe. Keep it as is.

Ch 10: "Neon Rainbow" Premium Outfit for Hyrieus rave

Noooooooooopey nope nope.

Verdict: Addi would NOT wear this. Replace entirely. Keep the jewelry for other potential outfits, but ditch the rest.

Ch 11: "Sweet Dreams" Premium Outfit to unlock sleepover scene with Riya

The pattern is cute! The style though... not so much.

Verdict: Addi would not own this. Replace entirely.

Of course, I kinda wanted that sleepover scene, so I bought the outfit. Luckily I could change the outfit in the scene. Sadly I could't change her to her regular pajamas. Instead I figured the Langston sweatshirt would do... so here's her Langston sweatshirt in pajama mode.

Ch 12: "Lady Luck" Premium Outfit for sneaking through the boutique and into the casino

I don't think Addi would want to waste time stopping and changing into a new outfit while on the run. While this dress is pretty nice, it's not quite nice enough for her to stop during an escape run.

Verdict: Addi might wear this, but it wouldn't have become part of her wardrobe. Replace.

If Addi needs an outfit to wear to a casino, she'd far prefer something like this.

Ch 14: "Pretty in Pink" Premium Prom Outfit

I'm actually kind of mixed on this. This is a really pretty dress, from the color to the floral pattern. And the floral pattern kind of goes with her tattoo as well (the color does not, sadly). The only thing Addi wouldn't like is the leg slit and the arm band, but other than that, it is something she might like.

Though I still think Addi farrrr prefers a suit for prom (and other formal events).

Verdict: Addi would not quite wear this. Alter and replace.

Here's what the outfit would look more like in Addi's preferred style. Plus a blue version, which goes with her tattoo much better in my opinion.

And of course, a suit version.

Ch 14: Free Prom Outfit

It's not exactly a prom style... but she'd probably feel more comfortable in it than in the original premium outfit. It matches Colt's suit at least.

Verdict: Part of Addi's wardrobe. Keep it as is.

How to install / Use default Underwear in to the sims 4 with the HQ mod

For what reason my underwear doesn't work??

If you use the HQ mod, you know that to have it work correctly you need to install replacement HQ files, the problem with them is that when you install a cas override mod your game looks as if you had never put the mods on your mods file, this happens because you have two overrides at the same time and for overrides you can only have 1, so in this tutorial I will show you how to remove the Hq override that does not allow you to use the default mod of your underwear.

First

U must have to have the latest versions of the Hq file replacement of the base game. If you want to install the default HQ skin, check out my tutorial. The creator of these repalaces only has skin IDs, not default underwear IDs. To be more specific, the IDs are a list of numbers and letters that contain the names of the textures that we will need to delete from the packages: BG_HQ_6, BG_HQ_7, BG_HQ_8 (How to get these IDs in the second step)

Second

U must be donwload a text file that I created with the name of the Hq package replaces and their respective IDs. Donwload

And you will uncompress the zip; on that, you will have 3 files with the name of the 3 Hq base game replaces.

Third

Now i´ll explain u how use those files on the packages replaces. i´ll make the tutorial whit BG_HQ_6 but THE PROCESS IS THE SAME WHIT ALL PACKAGE I´LL ONLY SHOW U WHIT THIS BECAUSE IS LITERALLY THE SAME WHIT THE LEFT OVER!!

so.... we i´ll open whit the S4studio the package BG_HQ_6

With the opened package, we will copy the ID that is in the text file that has the same name as the package, and we will paste these on the S4 searcher.

After you paste the ID, you need to click on filter, select the image, and click on delete:

Remember save the changes!!!!

IMPORTANT

⚠To be careful at hour of deleting texture, you must be pretty sure that you are downloading an override for this texture. For example, if you delete all texture but only downloaded a CC default underwear for women, the left-over ages will have a black texture on their underwear, so when you delete the textures on the s4studio, check the age of the image (I suppose that you recognize the ages of the underwear textures)⚠

⚠I have only taken out a single swatch, more specifically the texture that appears when you remove the clothes from the sim for all ages. If the CC that you downloaded contains more than one swatch, it will not be seen in the game; the original texture that corresponds to it will appear. Taking out these IDs is very complicated; if you want more samples, you will have to do it manually⚠

Literally, that's all. It's not that complicated, just slow. If for some reason the S4 Studio is slow when you hit save, it's normal. Just let it load. Even if it doesn't respond, eventually it will. Keep in mind that you are deleting textures from a file. about 3 or 2 gb.

And that's all!! I hope that if you are having a problem with this, that tut can be useful, and if you want, you can see my default underwear for all ages that is compatible here ୨ৎ

Hiiii sorry for bothering I really love your cc conversions from the sims 2 for ps2 my childhood were these games ❤❤ , so I was wondering if someday you would make clothes conversions too, I´ll really like to hve the female underwear from the sims 2 ( the pink bra and bottom) like a default replacent for the game, but nobody made it yet I think . Hi there! Thank you <3 Yes, I've been working on clothing conversions behind the scenes. I've shown a little bit, like Helga Mandrake's outfit, Jayde's outfit from the Urbz, Roxanna Moxie's outfit, Betty Buttercup's, XHT-F Smith's, etc. I did extract the pink underwear set, the swimsuits and several undershirts as I was looking into doing those before returning to my more complicated CAS projects. I also need to create the spin-off CAS database, as I think that should be separate from my object one. Honestly, I'm super excited to get into clothing, it's all so fun and unique! I don't know how much I can do for the Sims 3 and Sims 4. I suffer a lot creatively in that area for CAS, so I may just convert to the Sims 2 for the time being. I feel pretty stretched thin right now too with stuff going on in my life and my current projects. I wish there was more time in the day!

A loud, frustrated groan breaks the silence of the room causing Matt to look up from his phone. He has been waiting for you to get ready for your date for close to an hour now but every outfit has been tossed to the ground again in frustration after only minutes of being on your body. 

You had finally given up and tried to put on your ‘default outfit’ consisting of your favorite jeans and a basic t-shirt. The outfit you trust the most and feel the most comfortable in, usually. However your last shred of hope seemed to die as you realized even your most reliable clothes just don’t feel right. 

It isn’t just the way it looks in the mirror; with your belly tightly bloated and clearly pulling the fabric tighter than its intended. It’s the way it feels on your skin; everything feels too close to you, too tight, itchier than normal, too hot, too sweaty, too much fabric, not enough fabric. 

“Baby…” Matt starts carefully as you begin to tug your current outfit off roughly, “...what’s wrong?”

“I hate it!” you cry out, throwing your pants angrily at the floor. “Those are my favorite! Why don’t they feel right?” Your voice comes out louder than you had intended but the overwhelming frustration you’re experiencing clouds your mind and makes it difficult for you to care about your tone. Your shirt follows your pants to the ground closely as you slam the fabric down, turning to glare at your reflection in the mirror.

“They looked good…” Matt starts but stops himself as he catches the clear anger displayed on your face. “...sweetheart, just come lie down for a minute”

You stand in place, staring angrily at the ground where your favorite jeans now lie crumpled in a pile. Bra and underwear sitting disheveled on your skin from the frantic way you had ripped the previous outfits off. Your mind hadn’t really registered Matt’s careful words. The thoughts screaming through your mind have replaced any real, outside sounds as your mind spirals angrily. 

Why does your body have to change so much each day? Why is it today, of all days, that your favorite jeans just don’t feel right? 

The thoughts continue spinning in your brain as you release a frustrated huff of air and collapse face down on the bed next to Matt. You lay there, with your face in the pillow, completely still as the frustration of the morning finally causes tears to well up in your eyes. Your lip begins to wobble against the sheets of Matt’s bed and your eyes ache as the well finally begins to overflow. Warm tears spill slowly, calmly down your cheeks and into the pillow case - a stark contrast from the emotion that had caused them. 

The frustrating mix of feelings you are experiencing have finally stormed together enough for you to just feel numb, unable to move or think. Every thought or decision is just too overwhelming. The calmness of your breakdown seems almost eerie as the tears continue to fall silently, soaking your cheeks and the sheets burying your face. Your breathing remains regular and not heaving with sobs like your boyfriend was expecting and he hesitates, unsure of how to approach this unfamiliar mix of emotions.

Matt’s hands slowly make their way onto your back, gently soothing over your skin. After a few moments you flop your body over to lie on your back and look over to Matt. He feels his chest tighten as he sees the wet remnants of your frustrated tears smeared across your cheeks, your eyes red and puffy.

“Sweetheart, d’you want to wear my sweats?..” He suggests hesitantly, his voice soft as his fingers come up to your cheeks to wipe them dry.

No words leave your mouth, responding with a simple nod and pulling yourself up to sit on the edge of the bed as Matt moves towards the dresser and retrieves your favorite pair of pink sweats from his drawer. 

“I’ll get your favorite hoodie for you too, hm?” He opens another draw, pulling out a second pile of comfortable fabric and passing the pair to you. 

Dejectedly, you begin to pull on the outfit. The material feels much softer on your sensitive body and you let out a small sigh, relaxing slightly.

Matt releases a small chuckle at his phone, a new notification had popped up on his screen. 

“Thanks for the heads up” he mutters quietly to himself before glancing over to see you looking much more calm in his baggy sweats.

“I know your distaste for steak but… just eat it, please? You’re always so iron deficient on your period and if you eat this now you’ll have plenty of iron for when you start next week…”

It’s not that you don’t like the flavor of steak, it’s not even the texture. It’s just something about eating a massive slab of meat feels so off putting. But as you look up at your caring boyfriend standing next to you, looking so proud of the steak he prepared for you, you decide to push through.

Matt’s right, your period is due next week and often you find yourself light headed due to the loss of blood. Getting your iron levels up in preparation doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

hi there! i love your stuff! i was wondering if you could separate the tops and the bottoms of your underwear default and keep them WW compatible? i dislike having my fem sims w any kind of bras on, i find it makes it harder to work on their breasts, but i don't really care for their genitals, so i was wondering if it would be possible for me to keep only the bottoms default? also does having the replacement affect my sims' nudity in gameplay at all?

Technically, since it's a merged package, you can easily do this yourself! All you'd have to do is open up s4s, un-merge the package file, and then delete the package for bra.

As far as I've seen so far, no, the defaults don't impact ww nudity at all if you have the ww compatibility file. That's also a merged file, just un-merge that one and delete the "FT" file (female top). That should do it? Actually let me check real quick.

Yes, that seems to work fine 👍 No pics because we all know how tumblr is about boobs.

I will not be making a non-default version of the underwear and I won't be uploading any additional versions until I figure out some of the minor texture and compatibility issues I've discovered. For the most part though, especially if you have a very light mods folder, they work fine. Like, with just the defaults and ww in, as far as I've seen in testing, everything works exactly as expected.

so yeah, everything they said is correct and how I would personally approach it, they've linked some great tutorials and their mesh swap tutorial is top notch. dadpilled's files only require you to edit two files, which is so much easier than it used to be.

now, there's something else I'll mention, and it's the underwear model. thane does have an underwear model (and many more great outfits, as well as the other drell, in Project Variety LE3, that will be a great resource for getting some cool new threads for thane along with his default outfit. You can find these in the mod's BioNPC_Thane, NPC_Koylat, and other files. Or use LEX's asset database and anything with the DRL prefix will be able to be used) so luckily you have plenty of assets to play around with!

now, the underwear model for mshep is located in BIOG_HMM_NKD_ARM_R, and you can use the above tutorials to replace it directly with the ones that mods provide, and you should be ready to go for any romance scenes you'd like to have with thane! Make sure you copy this file into your mod folder before making your edits.

a tip I would give: when generating this mod, mount HIGH. 26000 up is what I would recommend to ensure that your edits will apply and not be overridden.

another thing I'll note: NPCs and their body meshes are different on how they are referenced versus sheps, so

make sure that any root (or top level folder) is not marked forced export, because that can cause the mesh to not appear properly when setting up the outfits in the above linked tutorials. This is ONLY for setting up outfits. Do not worry about this property when setting up the head mesh. You can click on the drop-down menu and uncheck this property. I ran into this problem when getting my breather mod set up for mshep since it used NPC breathers/folders and it was... unpleasant trying to figure out why it wasn't showing up.

but if all this is overwhelming (and trust me, I get it, I've been in the scene for less than a year and I remember being overwhelmed when first making my custom shep), I'll be happy to talk over DMs and help get some of this set up for you :D comms are not something we really do in the modding community (very much a major grey area, we don't' own these assets and rather play on the safe side, EA doesn't really acknowledge modding in our scene and we want to keep it that way), but I'm always up for helping out on mods like these since stuff like this was how I got started.

People who mod mass effect, and specifically who do model swaps:

Realistically, how possible would it be to replace male shep's head with Thane's in LE3? For a person who hasn't modded this type of game before (I've dabbled in some bethesda and stardew but this is a very different beast). I know the head and body are separate deals so it'd be Thane's head with human body unless his outfit was also imported and replaced one of sheps/was added as an option, so that's a whole lot of extra work too, though i'd guess the outfit part is probably actually easier than the head part? I am pretty clueless here. I have never tried to mod the game (well no i lie I tried to follow the custom head meshing tutorial by dadpilled which is an incredible and useful tutorial but actually creating models in blender is a brain fuck for me so I hit a wall) Then I think of the motivation of the screenshots of having Thane and Steve Cortez romance and I feel like this time I could try. For them, lol. I find large discord servers pretty damn overwhelming, but if there's any out there that aren't massively crowded and won't mind a fumbling newbie, recs are welcome. One on one chats also most welcome!
